Obituary of Deborah Louise (Jay) Abbey

Deborah Louise (Jay) Abbey, beloved wife, mother, Grammie, sister, and friend, passed away March 19, 2025 at the age of 72 in Lancaster, PA. Born March 31, 1952 in Rochester NY, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mark Abbey, daughter Kirsten Baker (husband Daniel Baker), son Nathaniel Abbey, grandchildren Caleb and Benjamin Baker, and sisters Judy Adams and Pat Crossett.

Deb spent most of her life in the greater Rochester area, teaching in several area school districts and serving as principal at Rochester Christian School. She attended Hope Lutheran Church, Rochester Christian Reformed Church, and Webster Christian Reformed Church. After moving to Pennsylvania in 2018, Deb and Mark attended Community Evangelical Church in Sinking Spring and Ephrata Reformed Presbyterian Church. Deb served as Assistant Principal at Hinkletown Mennonite School for two years.

Deb was an avid reader. She loved the color blue, watching birds, taking walks and hikes, and biking with her husband. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren; babysitting, attending music classes, taking them out for ice cream, reading books, and playing silly games. She will be missed beyond measure.

There will be a visitation with the family at C. Stanley Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA 17581, on Tuesday, March 25 from 4-8pm.

The funeral will take place at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd., Pittsford, NY 14534, on Saturday, March 29 at 11am. The burial will follow the service. Guests are welcome to stay and eat with the family.
