Obituary of Henry Owens

Honeoye Falls, formerly of Webster:  Henry Owens, 75, passed away on March 9, 2025 in Palliative Care at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was recently predeceased by his daughter, Jessica Owens Walker. He is survived by his wife, Barb; his granddaughters, Loralei and Izzy; and their dad, Eric Walker; his sister, Anne (Doug) Nickerson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; niece, Jennifer Gass of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and nephew, James Nickerson, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Henry was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Homewood Flosmoor High School in 1968. A graduate of Iowa State University in 1973 he began his professional career as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. He worked at several hospitals in Iowa including the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1990 Henry and his family moved to Webster, New York when he became employed at Strong Memorial Hospital. At this retirement, he was employed at Monroe Community Hospital. Along with his wife, Henry and Barb operated Bristol Views Bed and Breakfast in Naples, NY from 2004-2019.

In both his personal life and professional life, Henry cared deeply and compassionately for others. He always wanted to make sure everyone was okay. He loved music and was an avid reader until dementia took those away from him. Having spent his summers as a boy with his grandparents in the Black Hills, South Dakota, he would rather have been outdoors no matter what the weather. He often took long walks with one of his numerous dogs to enjoy what nature had to offer him.

Henry spent his last 5 months in Memory Care at Legacy Grand Vie in Penfield. The family wants to acknowledge the staff who were his caregivers during this time. It was evident upon placement that the family knew he was getting the care that he needed. Henry spent his last days in Palliative Care at Strong Memorial Hospital. All the staff were compassionate, caring and treated him with the dignity he deserved.

Prior to his placement at Legacy, Henry participated in adult day care at Marion’s House. His time there enhanced his quality of life in so many ways. Memorials can be given Jewish Home Foundation, Marion’s House, 2021 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14618.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 18, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Willard H. Scott Funeral Home, 12 South Avenue, Webster, NY 14580.
