Some teachers are legends, and Ned Paulsen was certainly one of them. It was a gift to be in his fourth-grade class in 1978. I still remember the warmth of that room, and his guitar playing was something magical. I took lessons from him for many years and learned the alluring landscape of Charlie on the MTA, Six Days on the Road, James Taylor, Neil Young and the Beatles. Ned took me to Sam Ash in White Plains to help me buy my first real guitar, which I still play frequently almost 45 years later. His humor and light shone on so many people. All good wishes to Julie and Ned's whole family.

Ned and I liked going to local music venues, and one time he decided to go to an open mike and do a song or two. At the time, he was beginning to have memory issues, and on the drive to the Greenhouse Cafe, he was worrying about being able to do the songs without any mistakes. But when he stepped up to the microphone he launched into “Can you spare a dime” with his Glenn Yarborough-like voice, he flat-out nailed it. An amazing man.

My condolences to Ned's family at this sad time. I met Ned thru the Rochester Triumph Club manny years ago. He was one of the reasons I joined the club, because of his friendly manner, and our mutual love of cars.
I wish I had known him longer, but I cherish the time we knew eachother. Godspeed Ned.

To Mr. Paulsen’s family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of him. May he rest in peace. Sending love and prayers your way. Your loss is Heaven’s gain and I am sure he is already leading the sing alongs on his guitar.❤️❤️❤️

I had his wing man, Mr Falber. What a duo they were, and how they loved all children.

I was not lucky enough to have Mr. Paulson as a teacher, but I did take guitar lessons with him after school one year. It was a highlight! What a kind man❤️

I have such fond memories of Mr. Paulsen, whose class I transferred into when I moved from Murray Ave. to Chatsworth. I think that Mrs. Paulsen had something to do with that: I had been in her kindergarten class when she was Miss Hick. I remember Mr. Paulsen’s tremendous energy and engagement in the classroom. Wonderful teachers, the Paulsen’s, the kind you never forget❤️

I was in Ned’s 4th Grade class. He taught us to play guitar which led to our founding our first band, Cloud Nine, in Fifth Grade and set me on a lifelong love of music and multiple bands thereafter. He was an excellent, dedicated teacher who had a major impact on my life over these past 66 years. My condolences to your family and regrets I’m not able to be with you to celebrate a life well lived!

Mr. Paulson was my 4th grade teacher 55 years ago at Chatsworth school - the year my family moved to Larchmont. . I still remember how much I enjoyed his class. And infusing teaching with the guitar. He was so “cool” and kind. Some of my best friends to this day were kids I met in Mr. Paulson class. In fact just last month several of us met for dinner and reminisced about his class. My deepest condolences go out to his family. He will be missed.

He was my favorite teacher too! What a terrific soul. Amazing course work reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry for the first time, exploring creative writing, discussing current events, politics and pop culture! I was in his guitar classes during 4th grade too! We talked later about his passion for his beloved MG and Austin Healy! And we both shared a deep connection to sailing on Long Island Sound! We gathered in 2009 for a mini Chatsworth reunion! It was so fun to reconnect with Ned and other great folks from our years there! We reminisced over the wonderful students from my class! RIP Ned, I know there were some challenging years in the end but your legacy will live on in our memories of the remarkable Ned Paulsen! My favorite song from our guitar classes that year was Punky’s Dilemma https://youtu.be/IsnlMqraDvQ?si=wdYOJoocZXNEIYEg

Ned was cared for by the staff at St. Ann's Community for six and a half years. These beautiful people were his community. They were professional, knowledgeable, attentive and treated him like family. We, his family of origin cannot thank his care givers enough. Nor do we have words to express our gratitude. We went home after each visit and slept well knowing that he too would sleep well. They gave us peace of mind. They gave Ned their love. I know they will offer their present and future residents the same care. For that, too, we are also grateful. We love you.

Ned was a longtime education colleague, hiking buddy, top-down roadster riding companion, concert going partner and all-around great friend. I will always treasure the many great memories we shared on those hikes and car rides and concert experiences. And the many burgers and custards! We always had a good time on our outings. His dry sense of humor often made me smile. Ned was a wonderful human being who made the world a better place wherever he touched it. Ned, you are missed but still greatly appreciated for the way you made our lives better.
Your buddy,
Peter
