John officiated our wedding in 1990 at Webster Baptist Church, which was my hometown church. While I knew the previous pastors at the church during my childhood, I did not know John. However, he graciously accepted to marry me and my future husband, who at the time had recently moved to the US and spoke little English. John was so patient and understanding as he explained the ceremony to him and his family. My mother, Sylvia Chambers, was the Music Director for the church during John's tenure as pastor. She had a wonderful rapport with him, and held him and his wife Sally near to her heart as very dear friends. I extend my most heartfelt condolences to Sally and the family during their time of grieving. Sharon Chambers

John was a special friend at First Baptist. I always appreciated his depth of scripture and especially hymns. What was most special to me was our weekly time together in the church basement's Food Depot filling food bags for School #4 in Rochester. It was a time of wonderful discussion, laughter, and the sharing of life experiences, often followed by a lunch somewhere. John was a remarkable human being whom I will miss but always remember with great fondness.

John officiated our wedding in 2012. The care and thought he put into getting to know us, and the wisdom he shared, stays with us today. We are grateful to have known him. Holding Sally and the entire family in our hearts through their time of grief.
