Obituary of Thomas J. Mooney
Thomas J. Mooney, a devoted husband, father, and engineer, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at his home in Webster, NY, surrounded by family and caregivers. He was 78 years old.
Born on October 16, 1946, to the late Margaret and Robert Mooney, Tom was raised in Rochester, NY, where he graduated from the Aquinas Institute. He went on to attend Canisius College before earning his bachelors and masters in engineering from the University of Detroit. While at the University of Detroit, Tom met the love of his life, JoAnn, with whom he shared a enduring bond throughout their marriage.
Tom had a distinguished 35-year career as an engineer at Xerox Corporation. His work earned him several patents and took him around the globe, including extended stays in Tokyo, Japan, and Palo Alto, California. Eventually, he returned to Webster, NY, where he continued to contribute to the company’s innovations and mentor others in the field.
A man of quiet accomplishments and unwavering integrity, Tom was deeply proud of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; his sons, Tim and Kevin; and a legacy of innovation and compassion that touched everyone who knew him.
Tom will be remembered for his intellect, generosity, and the warmth he shared with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Friends are invited to visitation 9:30-10:45 AM Saturday, January 4, at St. Rita’s Church, 1008 Maple Drive, Webster, where his Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tom’s memory to Lollypop Farm.
