Obituary of Mary Ann Hanna

Mary Ann Hanna, nee Donaher

Webster:  Mary Ann died peacefully at home on Tuesday evening, July 10, 2018.   She was 91.

Mary Ann was the second of six children Margaret and John Donaher raised in New Kensington, PA.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Mercyhurst College.  She taught home economics and then worked at WearEver/Alcoa performing new product testing and writing cookbooks.  She met Tom Hanna, her husband of 66 years, on a blind date.  Mary Ann and Tom raised a close-knit family of nine children.

Mary Ann was an inspiration to all:  joyful, kind and of good humor – unless her kids made her late for church – and a wonderful example of bringing the light of Christ to others.  She touched many people with her kindness and through her work with Birthright, the Martha Committee, Legion of Mary and many other organizations.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Tom; children,  Rebecca Urlacher (Paul), Kevin Hanna (Cristina), Meg Hanna, Brendan Hanna (Kim), Siobhan Sutherland (John), Sean Hanna (Marlene), Ciaran Hanna (Carolyn), Thomas Hanna (Karis); sister and brother, Ursula and Dennis; 27 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her son, Colin; grandson, Tristan; brothers Bill, John, Terry and sister, Catherine Julien.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 AM Saturday, July 14 at The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, 1460 Ridge Rd, Webster

The family extends their deepest thanks to Thomas, Marco and the aides from All-American Home Care for their wonderful care and support.  This allowed Mary Ann to remain at home, just as she wanted.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Missionaries of Charity, 335 East 145th St, Bronx, NY 10451.
