Webster: age 86, longtime resident of Webster, and lifetime educator and avid volunteer, died Monday, September 27, 2021 while in hospice care at The Friendly Home in Rochester. JoAnn was a parishioner at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Webster.
Born in Ilion, NY, September 1, 1935 JoAnn knew at an early age she wanted to be a teacher, graduating from Geneseo State Teacher College in 1958. Her forty-year teaching career included 1st grade at Bay Road School in Webster, and 30 years at Christ Clarion Preschool in Pittsford.
JoAnn served in numerous volunteer capacities at St. Paul’s Church, Strong Memorial Hospital and loved working with area migrant and Appalachian children and their families.
JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob”; daughter, Julie (Dana) McMahan; son, John (Nancy); sisters, Nancy Semeraro and Marilyn (Alex) Rakowski; grandchildren, Rachael (Eric) Stillway, Claire, Nicholas and Katey, special sisters- and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, goddaughters, Patsy (Jack) Wolber, and MaryLou (Jeff) Lewis. JoAnn also leaves behind a special family, Joel, Heather, Sam (Abby) and Micayla Menchel.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jeannette Earl, and brothers, Charles and Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Webster Central School District, c/o JoAnn Pierson Scholarship Fund, 119 South Avenue, Webster, NY 14580 to establish a scholarship in JoAnn’s name which will be awarded to selected graduating Webster seniors pursuing a degree in education.
Friends, family, former co-workers and neighbors are warmly invited to attend A Celebration of JoAnn’s Life on Sunday, June 5th, 2022, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at The White House Lodge in Webster Park.
