Obituary of Jean Dunn

Jean E. Dunn age 73, Taylorsville, UT on August 6, 2016, at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Salt Lake City, UT. Jean was born September 2, 1942 to the late Claude and Raida (Schweickhard) Dibble in Canandaigua, NY. She grew up in Ballantyne, NY and the family moved to Webster when Jean was a teenager. In 1958, Jean met and married Leonard Dunn, the man of her dreams. They lived in Webster, NY for ten years before moving to Knowlesville, NY with their four children, where they enjoyed having horses and all the animals they could handle! When their youngest entered school, Jean started work as a bus driver for Medina Central School District, a job she held and enjoyed for many years. She had many fond memories of Medina and never forgot the dear friends she made there. Due to Lenny's failing health, they moved to Clarksville, TN in 1987 to be near their daughter Jeanie. In Clarksville, Jean once again took up the mantle of the job she loved and became a bus driver for Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools. She was there many years. Lenny died in 2001, and a few years later, at age 63, Jean embarked on yet another adventure. She drove a moving van, hauling a vehicle, by herself, 1600 miles to Taylorsville, UT, to live near her daughter Jane and young grandchildren. Not long after her arrival she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. She was given a life expectancy of five years, but being twice as tough as anyone else, she lived twice as long. Making the most of those ten years, she helped to raise two grandsons, moved back to NY, then back to UT, and really started to slow down only very recently, after having also contracted uterine cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and all four of her siblings: Harold and Claude Dibble, Shirley Dzula and her twin sister, Jane Scheel. Jean was known for throwing the best family reunion picnics, and we are sure there is a big family party going on right now. Jean is survived by her four children: Jerald (Beth) Dunn of Albion, NY, Jeanie (Dennis) Hayes of Chillicothe, OH, Jody (Brad) Bidlack of Waterloo, NE, and Jane (Don) McBride of Taylorsville, UT. Eight grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Hayes, Valerie (Joseph Kyner) Hayes, Kathleen (Christopher) Shanks, Jerald (Jessica) Dunn, Paul (Daylyn) Bidlack, Rebecca (Jonathan) Holland, William McBride and Sean McBride, and five great grandchildren, Thomas Hayes, Garrett Hayes, Bridget Hayes, Toryn Shanks and Atley Shanks, many nieces and nephews who were like her own children, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services to be announced. Jean and Lenny were great animal lovers who rescued and advocated for well over a hundred dogs and cats over the years. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to your local animal shelter or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
