Fran J. Hollands

Webster/Penfield:  Passed away on Dec. 27, 2017. Fran was born April 14, 1939 to Harry and Winifred Jones at Sherwood, NY and lived most of her life in the Webster/Penfield area. She is survived by her siblings Ron (Cynthia) Jones, Janet (Jim Mahoney) White, Judi (Alan) Shellenberger, Deborah (Ed) Waldron and 70+ nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her children David (Karina), Devin (Elena), Tracy (Juris Ahn) Hollands and her grandchildren Ben (Amber) and Heather Landers, Lindsey and Hayley (Steven Beaman) Hollands, Shayne and Jordan Hollands, Donna Deimler and four great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents.

Fran graduated from Union Springs Central School ‘56, Nazareth College ‘76 BS Social Work/Special Ed, ‘79 MS Education and SUNY Brockport ‘87 Certificate of Advance Study in Education Administration. Her career was teaching emotionally handicapped children at BOCES #1 and Hillside Children’s Center. The highlight of her career was working with her students on Louise Slaughter’s Congressional Campaign including a field-trip to Washington D.C. to visit Louise. Separation of Church and State was Fran’s deepest passion. She served on the board of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, the board of Monroe Citizens for Public Education and Religious Liberty (MCPEARL), the board of Planned Parenthood, rape crisis service, and education committees. She was active in politics serving on the NYS Legislative Committee and was a Democratic Committee member. She was active in the First Unitarian Church for over 55 years. One of her favorite past times was to watch the Harley Volleyball Team play where her granddaughter Shayne played on their Varsity Team. She is very sad to leave her YMCA Silver Sneakers friends who meant the world to her.
